I am not here to give you a straightforward answer or an expert opinion on generating backlinks. I am one among you and have figured out a way to create backlinks and want to share the idea with you.
For those who are new to the concept, a backlink is a link to your website from another site. If the other site is of your niche and has a high domain authority, then the backlink has more weightage. Also if the provided link on the other site is a dofollow link then it's of the highest importance when compared to that of nofollow links. Having said this any link from an external site does matter.
If the link is coming from low-quality websites then your website search ranking may decrease.
I followed the below steps to create backlinks and 100 is a reasonable beginning.
First, identify your niche and that would decide whether you will secure high-quality backlinks. Use any backlink audit tool like Semrush to compare your competitor backlinks and identify the gap. Just knowing the gap will not fetch you the results, nor would you be able to gain access to these competitor backlink sites and obtain a link for yourself. To start with pick more generic websites where you are sure to obtain backlinks.
The websites that I am going to list are aggregator or social media sites and anyone can obtain backlinks if done right.

An average of 10 links on each of these sites can fetch you 100 backlinks in a span of 15 days.
Just posting links on these sites is not sufficient. You will have to ask your supporters to click on these links to let google identify these links and map them as backlinks.
The more suck links you post and the more hits you receive your backlink count will increase in turn increasing the position of your website on Google SERP or search results page.

You may also go for traditional methods, by approaching the site owner and requesting a backlink, but it's more time-consuming and needs more effort.
Also, there are backlink-generating websites that claim to generate free high-authority backlinks. The paid ones may give you results but I have tried a few free ones, it does not give you the needed results. The manual way is full proof and quicker too and to top it all it's FREE.
